    In mid-August, a couple from Grants Pass called the Roseburg Police Department from the parking lot of the Hampton Inn to report two bikes, a $2,200 black Specialized Epic mountain bike and a $2,900 orange version, had been stolen from their truck, according to court documents. Police believed the man was 21-year-old Ryland Benefiel, a Roseburg resident with a history of committing similar crimes and who has had wire cutters, bolt cutters and other tools in his possession during previous arrests, according to court documents.

    "And the next thing you know, there goes her husband on the bike after him and then not event hat, shes on 911 and her mom goes after to help her husband and I'm going, 'Oh my god'," Randi Robbs, victim of stolen purse, said. "I was leaving the doors open and going back and forth and she said, 'somebody just got in your truck' and I said 'what?' and I was like, 'are you kidding?' and was like, 'he took something' and I went to look and my purse was gone," Robbs said.

  • 27 arrested during Josephine County sex offender sweep

    From August 14 through the 16, the Josephine County Sheriff's Office teamed up with the U.S. Marshal's Office, the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety and Oregon State Police for the enforcement action. "The purpose of this operation was to target specific offenders who were wanted or out of compliance with Oregon Revised Statutes pertaining to [sex offender] registration," Sheriff Dave Daniel wrote.

    On August 14, 34-year-old Eddie Joseph Correia was shot and hospitalized with unspecified injuries. Police believe Correia assaulted a man at a Wimer market four days prior.
