    An Erie man facing trial later this month on charges of assaulting a Pennsylvania State Police trooper and stealing his patrol car in January has been charged in a reported burglary on Erie's east side on Saturday afternoon. Anthony K. Kuroda, 28, is in the Erie County Prison on $25,000 bond this morning following his arraignment over the weekend by Erie 4th Ward District Judge Tom Robie on charges of burglary, robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and simple assault. 1 comment

  • Erie man, wanted in assault on witness, jailed

    One of five men, accused by police of retaliating against a witness in a fatal Erie shooting, was placed in Erie County Prison over the weekend. Marquis L. Barnes, 24, was being held today on charges of retaliation against a witness or victim, simple assault and terroristic threats, according to prison records.

    He has been suspended since March 17 and although coach Mark Dantonio hasn't addressed the situation since, athletic director Mark Hollis said on June 5 that Williams' possible reinstatement would be a "collaborative decision." The Erie, Pa., native and Cathedral Prep graduate was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of brandishing a firearm when he was involved in a traffic dispute in March.

    An Erie police cruiser holds the scene of a fatal overnight shooting being investigated at the intersection of West 19th and Chestnut streets in Erie on July 2. Police said officers were responding to a report of shots fired shortly after 1 a.m. on July 2 when they found a man shot in the head inside a vehicle. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

West 19th Street is blocked off between Chestnut and Cherry streets this morning, with a city police officer stationed at Chestnut Street.

    A woman shot in the chest while sitting in a sport utility vehicle traveling along East 18th Street in February testified Wednesday that she did not see who shot her or the two passengers seated beside her. But prosecutors used the woman's taped interview with Erie police detectives about one month after the shooting, in which she identified Dayquan R. Holloway as the shooter, to make their case against the 19-year-old city man during his preliminary hearing.

    Judith A. MacWhirter, 50, is accused of forging numerous checks to take the funds between May of 2006 and December, according to a criminal complaint filed by Erie County detectives on Tuesday. An investigation into the allegations of financial crimes against the victim was launched in May, when detectives met with another relative of the victim, according to case documents.

    An Erie man wanted for more than three years on charges of assaulting a woman and shooting a gun on the city's west side in late 2011 is in the Erie County Prison today following his apprehension in Columbus, Ohio. John Sanchez, 44, was brought back to Erie from Columbus and was arraigned Tuesday night by Erie 1st Ward District Judge Sue Mack on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, possessing an instrument of crime, recklessly endangering and simple assault.

    An Erie man accused of firing gunshots into an occupied sport utility vehicle in early February, injuring three of the five people inside, was held for trial this morning on charges of endangering all of the vehicle's occupants but assaulting and attempting to kill only one of them. Dayquan R. Holloway, 19, was held for trial on one count of criminal attempt at homicide, aggravated assault, possessing an instrument of crime and carrying a firearm without a license; and on five counts of recklessly endangering another person, following his preliminary hearing.

    The Erie County District Attorney's Office has gone to court seeking bond to force shooting victim DeAngelo Troop to appear in court in the case against Davon D. Jones, the man accused of shooting Troop five times on Christmas Day. Erie police said on the night of the shooting, Troop identified Jones, 28, as the person who fired on him as he drove away from Juliet's Gentlemen's Club, 2022 W. Eighth St. But now Troop -- who was struck five times, including in the neck and jaw -- has told prosecutors he does "not want to cooperate with the prosecution in the case against the defendant," according to the motion filed by Assistant District Attorney Matthew Cullen.

    A man whose testimony helped prosecutors convict an Erie man accused of fatally shooting another man in August was attacked in late May by a group of men in retaliation for his testimony, city police charge in criminal complaints filed against five people. The five Erie men -- Todd C. Wiley, 19; George D. Johnson, 25; Marquis L. Barnes, 24; Laquan D. Martin, 24; and Kayzon H. Phillips, 24 -- face felony counts of retaliation against a witness or victim and misdemeanor counts of simple assault and terroristic threats in the May 30 attack on Javon Martin inside Dowling's Tavern, 1132 Cascade St., according to the complaints. 19 comments

    Erie police are looking for a man who is wanted for questioning in the death of a city woman whose body was found in her eastside home late Tuesday night. Police Chief Randy Bowers said this afternoon that Marquice Evans, 25, is a person of interest in his department's investigation into the death of Sherry Lyons, who was found dead in her house at 241 E. 27th St. late Tuesday night.

    Police said a man was leaving a tavern when he was hit from behind and assaulted in the 800 block of West Fourth Street at about 8:20 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing the victim on the ground and that they saw two men rolling him over and reaching in his pockets. The suspects took $300 from the victim's pocket.

had an accident hit 3 parked cars nobody including self was injured, was asked to take bac refused was put in drunk tank released in morning was given no citation. i turned it in to insurance next day vehicles have been paid for. penndot suspending license for refusal for 18 months received that a month after accident. on the 18th of june it will be 2 months i still have not received anything from police, the morning i was released they had me sign something that said suspicion of marijuna but my rolling papers and rolling machine were left in car.

A family member was recently charged with 75 § 3802 §§ D2* (DUI) and 75 § 3309 §§ 1 because he accidentally took too much of his prescribed medication. We have not received anything in the mail yet but on PA state website it says "Awaiting Preliminary Hearing". A friend was saying we could do the ARD program to remove the charge from record since it's a first offense but I am unsure if this is a simple process or if a lawyer is needed.
