An Elgin man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty in the shooting of a 33-year-old man in May 2015 and another, unrelated drug arrest the next month. Victor N. Rivera, 24, of the 1000 block of Prospect Avenue, was initially charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in the shooting May 27 at an apartment on the 0-99 block of North Dubois Avenue in Elgin, according to police and court records. Comment?

Bail was set at $300,000 Monday for one of two suspects arrested in a home invasion in South Elgin over the weekend in which the homeowner wrestled away a gun and shot one intruder. Michael T. York, 51, of the 300 block of South Collins Street, South Elgin, was on probation for a 2013 drug offense when he was arrested in connection with the attack, which authorities say occurred late Saturday night on the 300 block of Windsor Court. A 42-year-old California man is facing a misdemeanor battery charge after police say he repeatedly struck another man early Saturday during a brawl at wedding reception in Streamwood. Vinh Quan Vi, of Westminster, California, was arrested at 1:43 a.m. Saturday, after officers were called to a banquet hall in the 700 block of South Barrington Road in response to a fight in progress, a Streamwood police report states. Elgin police have arrested a 25-year-old man suspected in a drive-by shooting last week in the 600 block of St. Charles Street. Francisco J. Espinoza, of the 600 block of Elma Avenue in Elgin, is charged with one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm in the direction of another person or vehicle, a Class 1 felony, stemming from the June 29 shooting. A 27-year-old woman accused of trying to bribe Elgin police with $2,000 after her third DUI arrest last year pleaded guilty to a reduced charge and was sentenced to two years of probation, community service and nearly a year of wearing an alcohol monitoring device. Maria Alarcon, of the 1100 block of Denver Drive, Carpentersville, was initially charged with trying to bribe police and aggravated DUI -- both felonies -- along with a host of other traffic offenses after being pulled over on July 18, 2015, according to Kane County court records. A 28-year-old Elgin man who prosecutors say intentionally hit an acquaintance with his car was ordered held on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of an injury accident Tuesday. Daniel Maccione, who was on bail for misdemeanor marijuana possession at the time of his arrest, was ordered held on a total bail of $160,000 by Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo, who also ordered Maccione submit to random drug testing. Comment?
