Keiarah Davis of East Orange a now ex-employee of Hollister was charged with theft for attempting to steal $520 from a cash register at Hollister while still employed there. Davis plead guilty to the charge as written and was sentenced to pay a $500 fine, $33 in court cost fees, $50 to the Victim of Crime Compensation Fund and $75 to the Safe Neighborhood Fund. Comment?

On Oct. 20. at approximately 1:22 a.m., a 22-year-old male from East Orange reported being the victim of a robbery, which occurred while he was walking on Ampere Parkway near Beardsley Avenue. The victim reported that a gray, two-door car passed him with its headlights off, made a U-turn, and stopped when it got close to him. Comment?

NEWARK - A Superior Court judge today revoked the bail for an East Orange man who pleaded guilty last month to coercing his 90-year-old dementia-stricken neighbor into withdrawing $50,000 from an annuity account. Judge Michael L. Ravin granted the state's application to revoke the bail for Gilbert Vaughn, 64, and denied a defense motion to lower his bail from $75,000 to $50,000. Comment?

A routine traffic stop by Bloomfield police earlier this year played a role in the investigation of, and guilty plea by, an East Orange man who stole $50,000 from a 90-year-old, dementia-stricken friend, authorities reported. On Friday, in Essex County Superior Court, defendant Gilbert Vaughn, 64, pleaded guilty to second-degree insurance fraud, third-degree unlawful theft by taking and fourth-degree identity theft. Hoffman and the Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor announced Friday that an East Orange man pleaded guilty to charges that he stole $50,000 from a fellow resident of a senior citizens home. According to authorities, a Bloomfield traffic stop led to an investigation that Gilbert Vaughn, 64, coerced his dementia-stricken 90-year-old neighbor and friend into withdrawing the money from an annuity account, as the New Jersey Office of the Public Guardian for the Elderly began protecting the victim's finances.
