DANVILLE - Among five witnesses who testified Thursday in the retrial of an Indiana man accused of killing one man and injuring another in a shooting about four years ago outside a Danville nightclub was a concertgoer who recalled the accused pointing a pistol at his forehead just before the fatal shots rang out.

    A 19-year-old man was charged Thursday with first-degree murder for allegedly stabbing to death his friend, Danville business owner Jay Hein. Condon, who appeared for his arraignment via video camera from the jail, showed no emotion when Vermilion County Associate Judge Mark Goodwin read him the charges and possible penalties - 20 to 60 years in prison for murder, six to 30 years for aggravated arson and two to five years for concealment of a homicidal death.

    A 19-year-old Danville man is expected to be arraigned today on formal charges of murder and arson in connection with the death of a well-known Danville business owner. The detained man - whose name is not being released pending formal charges in Vermilion County Circuit Court - was initially taken into custody Wednesday as a "person of interest" in a death investigation that began earlier in the day, when Danville firefighters discovered a man's body in a house in the 3600 block of Bayview Drive, where they had answered a fire call at 9:20 a.m., according to Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason.

    A 19-year-old Danville man is being held on preliminary charges of murder and arson in connection with a Wednesday-morning fire at a house in north Danville where firefighters discovered a body. Public Safety Director Larry Thomason said the man, who was detained Wednesday afternoon, is being held at the Public Safety Building, but he's not releasing his name ahead of a pending arraignment on formal charges in Vermilion County Circuit Court.

The victim told police he had been walking east on East Main near Kimball Street when two men approached him and tried to search him, and when he refused, one of them pulled out a handgun and shot him.

    A 40-year-old Chicago man was formally charged on Wednesday for allegedly shooting a man to death at the Fair Oaks public housing complex last October during an argument over a parking space. Maurice Brooks was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, Class M felonies, and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, a Class 3 felony, in connection with death of Gerald Taylor, 25, of Danville.

    Police are investigating a Sunday shooting that injured a 22-year-old Danville man and led to the arrest of five individuals on charges of obstructing justice. At 6:05 p.m. Sunday, police responded to the 600 block of Logan Avenue for a report of a vehicle that struck a power pole.

    Officers responded to the 600 block of Logan Avenue around 6 p.m. Sunday and found a 22-year-old man who had been shot in the back. The man told police he was around Jackson and Cherry Streets when someone started shooting at his vehicle and hit him.
