  • Selectmen approve grant in face of override

    Late last month, the state's congressional delegation announced that the town's Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant had been renewed for another two years, allowing Bourne to retain eight firefighters whose salaries are funded by the federal aid. But in preparations for the possibility that voters reject a $2.9 million override in October, Bourne officials have discussed laying off four firefighter-paramedics as part of staff cuts that would touch every corner of town government.

  • Pocasset man arrested in hit-and-run

    Bourne police arrested a Falmouth man this afternoon who was sought in a hit-and-run that sent a 68-year-old man to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries Sunday. According to the state police, Charles McKeen III, 65, was taken into custody in Bourne at around 4:30 p.m. Earlier in the day, state troopers in Western Massachusetts found a white van that matched the description of the vehicle used in the hit-and-run.
