  • Five More Charged in Recent Burglaries

    HOLMES COUNTY The Holmes County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division has recovered more property stolen during recent burglaries in the community and has made additional arrests in connection to the crimes. Shane Kent, 38, of Bonifay Burglary, Grand Theft Dallas Payne, 29, formerly of Panama City and Vernon - Dealing in Stolen Property, Burglary, Grand Theft Jamie Sanders, 30, of Bonifay - Dealing in Stolen Property, Burglary, Grand Theft All of the above individuals were taken into custody with the exception of Jamie Sanders, who is still at large.

  • 2 Holmes County inmates escape, 3 jail staff placed on leave Updated Oct 29 at

    Three Holmes County Jail staff have been placed on administrative leave after two inmates escaped early Monday.  Holmes County Sheriff John Tate was notified at approximately 4:30 a.m. Monday that Devante LaQuawn Carswell and Charles Lorenzo Lee were unaccounted for during a security check, according to a press release from the Holmes County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the Bonifay Police Department and the Holmes Correctional Institution K9 Team, recaptured the two men at approximately 7 a.m. without incident in the area of Indiana Avenue, the press release said. 1 comment

  • 5 arrested, one at-large in burglary ring

    HOLMES COUNTY – The Holmes County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division has been diligently working to solve several burglaries that have taken place throughout Holmes County. This investigation recently resulted in the arrest of five individuals in connection with a burglary/theft ring, in which individuals would burglarize local residences and then take items stolen from the homes to exchange for illegal narcotics.
