    Kern County Sheriff's Office has secured funding for the purchase of 304 Automatic External Defibrillators, 235 of which will be placed in patrol vehicles to assist officers with cardiopulmonary resuscitation of persons in cardiac distress. The Kern County Sheriff's Office has had several Automatic External Defibrillators within the Sheriff's Training Facilities for over four years and has recognized the need for a Sheriff's Office-wide AED Program.

    Bakersfield police said 28-year-old Emmanuel Body was arrested on a warrant for murder Tuesday night on the 3100 block of S. H Street. On Monday, June 29, officers were dispatched to 627 Sumner Street regarding a fight in the parking lot just after 8 p.m., according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

  • Bakersfield Police Officer Killed

    According to the Bakersfield Police Department, on June 26, 2015, at 2:53 am, officer David Nelson made a car stop on a vehicle near the area of Flower St. and Haley St. The officer described the vehicle and an unlicensed silver Hyundai. A short time later the officer, who sounded out of breath, returned to the radio and stated that he was following the vehicle.

    A man who allegedly used another person's credit card to purchase goods at the Nordstrom Rack store at the Shops at River Walk in Southwest Bakersfield is being sought by the police. Bakersfield Police Department Sergeant Joe Grubbs told 23ABC the suspect, identified as a Hispanic man between 25 to 35-years-old, went into the Nordstrom Rack store on May 16 at around 5:08 p.m., and made a purchase using the victim's credit/debit card information.

    The Kern County Sheriff's Office has had several Automatic External Defibrillators within the Sheriff's Training Facilities for over four years and has recognized the need for a Sheriff's Office wide AED Program. In early 2014, the Sheriff's Office included AED training to all sworn staff and started looking into ways to increase its AED Program.

  • Massage therapist arrested on sexual assault

    As a result of the investigation, a massage therapist, 58 year old Bakersfield resident Yuda Zhang was arrested on sexual assault charges. Zhang was booked into the Kern County Jail.

  • Police ID man wanted in attempted murder cases

    On April 23, 2015, at about 1:15 am, Bakersfield police officers were sent to the Kern Medical Center emergency room regarding the victim of a shooting who had arrived at the hospital. Officer said they discovered that 46-year-old Bakersfield resident Cleotha Kimber Jr. had been shot multiple times near the intersection of E. Brundage Ln. and Tyree Tolliver St. After the assault, Kimber had driven himself to Kern Medical Center for treatment.

    The family of a man fatally shot by Bakersfield police in November has filed a civil rights lawsuit against the department, alleging, among other things, that an officer tickled the dead man's feet at the coroner's office. In the suit, filed Tuesday in Kern County, the family claims that Ramiro James Villegas was unlawfully shot by officers and that his body was then "desecrated" at the Kern County coroner's office by an officer who tickled his feet and touched his head while cracking jokes.

  • Man accused of sexual assault arrested

    At about 11:45 a.m., Bakersfield police officers were sent to a home in the 1200 block of Pacific Street regarding the victim of a sexual assault. Officers said they found a woman who told them she had been sexually assaulted by 20 year old Bakersfield resident Martin Cazares while at a home in the 1100 block of Ralston St. Detectives were called to continue the investigation.

Can a firefighter make a citizen arrest for a DUI?
I was driving through an accident and a fireman waved me down and told me to stop and wait because he said I was driving recklessly. I waited and then a cop shows up and I ended up being arrested for DUI. The report I got from the DMV says that the fireman did a citizen arrest and that the cop took over after. Can they do that? Is that enough reason to stop me? Thought they need to see me drive etc. I wish I would have just continued on...
