Two dozen area residents got in cars Sunday and drove 192 years into the past, ogling 1850s farmhouses and barns, the early toll road for wagons going over the Siskiyous, the horse trail where the first whites entered the valley in 1827 - and the cemetery where sleep the pioneers who built Ashland. Called “Miles Through History,” the first car trek to notable spots of the past - most of them vaguely heard about but little studied by modern folk - was led by noted Southern Oregon historian, archaeologist and author Jeff LaLande and sponsored by the Southern Oregon Historical Society.
