Worth County Firefighters felt the rumble as the severe weather ripped through their station.

Winds, some gusting as high as 70 miles per hour, shredded pieces of a roof at a business near downtown Sylvester and splintered and uprooted trees throughout Southwest Georgia as two strong fronts collided over the South Monday, leaving one dead and thousands without power.

The Worth County Sheriff's Office reports high winds, hail, downed tree limbs and power lines in the northern portions of Sylvester.

Now, officials want to make sure residents report damage to their homes. Water rushed through Little River Road at Shingler and collapsed the asphalt road.
