18-month moratorium recommended on frac sand mining

After listening to the public's comments for nearly two hours on Tuesday, May 14, the Winneshiek County Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend an 18-month moratorium on the issuance of new permits for frac sand mining operations in Winneshiek County.

Wildman trial now June 26

The 23-year-old Cresco man has been incarcerated at the Winneshiek County Jail since last fall on three counts of attempted murder for discharging his 12-gauge shotgun at Cory Numedahl of Calmar, Andrew Massman of West Union and David Cheney of Calmar, as they were exiting their vehicle in Calmar early Oct.

The Winneshiek County Recycling Department's skid loader pulled out the Clayton County Recycling truck full of scrap metal after the truck sank into the soft ground at the north building.

Wildman denied request for lower bond
