Fighting for stronger abuse laws

Republican and Democratic state officials joined hands in a demonstration of unity Tuesday, pledging to strengthen Vermont's sex offender laws, despite some lingering differences.

sure the time is unreasonable for Sears because they are coming up on August vacation and that would require them to WORK during their month off.

"Two ideas — civil confinement and the death penalty — supported by Douglas will not be under consideration, though, Sears said. "

It appears he has heard enough about the subject despite what his constituents are saying in light of the tragedy in Randolph.

Actually, our legislators have actual jobs so it isn't a "vacation", as they are not paid a salary to represent us - just a nominal stipend. So they take leaves of absence from actual employment or find a way around it in order to support themselves.

Mandos...prosecutors hate mandos because it's an all/nothing proposition.Many times there's not enough evidence,or the victim's too young to be put on the stand.Mandos make perps go to trial.What's there to lose?

At least without mandatory sentences prosecutors can make deals with perps,providing some justice-albeit slight in many cases-to the victims of sexual abuse.
