Trial in deaths of 2 delayed by appeals

Cycling club inviting public on scenic Sunday ride

STERLING – The Tempo Velo Farmondo, a three-ride event to raise money for cycling infrastructure in the Sauk Valley area, will begin and end Sunday at Woodlawn Arts Academy, 3807 Woodlawn Road. Riders of all skill levels are welcome, and can choose from the 72-mile Gran Fondo "Bull Ride," the 42-mile Medio Fondo "Hog Ride" or the 20-mile Citizens Fondo "Rooster Ride."

A year later, a new April House in Morrison

MORRISON – A little more than a year after Whiteside County's child advocacy center, April House, faced almost-certain closure, its luck has completely turned around – thanks to an outpouring of community support. With mounting bills and the loss of a crucial state grant that had kept the center up and running, Johanna Hager, April House's executive director – and its sole employee – was at a loss for what to do.

Rock Falls, Sterling eye sales tax increase

ROCK FALLS – Municipal officials say that concerns about road conditions are the most frequent complaints heard at city halls throughout the Sauk Valley. In Sterling and Rock Falls, there is a good chance that a half-cent increase in the local sales tax will be presented as the solution to fixing all of those potholes.

The pot continues to thicken for video gaming
