Woman dies in weekend crash

An early morning crash Saturday on M-115 in Clam Lake Township left one woman dead and Michigan State Police searching for a suspected driver. The crash occurred around 5 a.m. Saturday morning near S. 39 Road in Wexford County.

Woman Ejected From Car, Dies In Northern Michigan Crash

Authorities say a 24-year-old woman has been killed after being ejected from a speeding car that collided with a semitrailer in Michigan's northwestern Lower Peninsula. Michigan State Police said the car the woman was riding in was traveling southeast on M-115 in Wexford County's Clam Lake Township early Saturday when it passed another vehicle, lost control and hit the oncoming truck.

A 24-year-old woman from Caledonia has died after being involved in a car crash that took place early this morning in Wexford County. Witnesses say the driver of car was speeding southeast bound on M115 and tried to pass another car traveling in the same direction.

Haring Township seeks to sever ties from county on water, sewer

The anticipated construction of a wastewater treatment plant in Haring Township is prompting the township to ask Wexford County to cut short an agreement under which the county's Department of Public Works operates the township's wastewater system. As outlined in a letter from Haring Township Supervisor Bob Scarbrough to Wexford County, the township is asking to move forward the expiration date for the Sewer Operations Agreement between the two entities from the spring of 2017 to Dec. 31, 2014.

Wexford County Housing Council members take issue with board oversight

A move by the Wexford County Board of Commissioners to provide oversight of the decisions made by the Wexford County Housing Council isn't sitting well among the volunteers on the council. Earlier this year, the board began requiring the council to first submit any proposed expenditures to the county's finance committee, and then to the board, for approval.

Cadillac man stands mute to meth charges

Travis Max Pace, 29, stood mute in 28th Circuit Court in Wexford County to charges of operating and maintaining a meth lab, manufacturing methamphetamine and conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

Haring Township approves Marijuana moratorium

The chance of a new medical marijuana dispensary cropping up in Haring Township seems to have gone up in smoke. The Haring Township Board voted to approve a temporary marijuana moratorium to prevent future marijuana dispensaries from opening in the township.

Driver injured in two-vehicle crash on M-115

Officers from the Wexford County Sheriff's Office and Selma Township firefighters responded to the crash, which occurred at 9 a.m. at 13th Street and M-115. A black Toyota was headed northwest bound on M-115 when it collided with a green SUV headed eastbound on 13th Street, according to police.

Officials: Wetland mitigated effect of Lake Mitchell sewage spill

Water samples taken from Lake Mitchell close to the site where untreated sewer water spilled into a nearby wetland reveal the lake is safe for swimming, according to an official from the District 10 Health Department. Water samples show the level of E. coli bacteria are within the normal range, according to Environmental Health Director Tom Reichard.

Appointments to CWTA allow public transit to issue paychecks

The necessity of making appointments to the Cadillac-Wexford Transit Authority was so urgent that the authority would not have been able to even pay its employees without them, according to Wexford County Administrator Ken Hinton. Four individuals were named to the CWTA Wednesday after resignations by three of the four remaining members left only one member on board that oversees public transportation in the county.
