Vehicle pursuit, possession of marijuana and weapon lead to arrests in two separate cases

In two separate incidents over the weekend, Webb County Sheriff's Office deputies seized a load of marijuana and arrested two suspects near an elementary school. In the first incident on Sunday shortly before 3 a.m., deputies assigned to the Organized Crime Unit conducted a traffic stop on Village Boulevard near Del Mar. That's when deputies noticed the driver, Cesar Rodolfo Reyes, 32, had cocaine in his possession.

Webb County Commissioners consider tax increase

Last year, the Webb County property tax rate raised over $67 million in revenues, a portion of which was used to fund maintenance and operations like road and bridge, law enforcement, and other sources. This year, the county is proposing an increase to the property tax, that will raise more than $74 million which will be more than $7.5 million more in revenues.

A justice of the peace from the Laredo area has pleaded guilty to federal extortion charges for taking a $250 bribe to rig the bond of a man accused of drunken driving. Ricardo Rangel has been a justice of the peace in Webb County since 2002.
