A 5-week-old baby that was not in a child safety seat was killed Sunday morning when the driver of the car in which he was riding fell asleep at the wheel, Kentucky State Police said.

Gabriel Reese Byrum was in the back seat of a 1996 Honda Accord driven by his mother, Elizabeth A. Greenwell, 18, of Crofton. About 1:10 a.m., Greenwell was westbound on U.S 68-80 in Todd County when she fell asleep and her vehicle entered the median, police said.

She overcorrected, causing the vehicle to overturn and skid 196 feet, resting upright in a ditch. Read more
