Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Eric Magnuson may be leaving the high court, but his commitment to opening the courtroom process hasn't waned at all.

Has there ever been a better-publicized Census? We cannot open a newspaper or turn on a television without hearing the cry, in so many words, "The Census is coming! The Census is coming!" This week, many of us received letters from the Census bureau.

The Minnesota Coalition on Government Information has bestowed its 2010 John R. Finnegan Freedom of Information Award on the publisher of the Swift County Monitor-News. Reed Anfinson has worked at the weekly newspaper in Benson for 30 years as a reporter, managing editor and now publisher and owner.

It wasn't a great day to be on the road Thursday, especially in southwestern Minnesota.

"He began to push the officer and one thing led to another. The confrontation eventually led to Cox striking the officer in the back of the head," said Sergeant Mike Jamor.

Police in Benson aborted a high-speed chase for safety's sake, but continued their pursuit with shoe leather instead and got their man when he picked up a prescription one day later.
