Charges brought in shooting

After a few weeks of investigation into a shooting incident that occurred during a car chase involving the Leslie Police Department, the Smithville Department and the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, Southwestern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Plez Hardin announced that charges have been filed against an individual.

A car chase that started in the community of Leslie last Tuesday and ended up in the depths of Sumter County in front of a residence, 376 Wiggins Road, involving not only the Leslie City Police, Lee County Sheriff's K-9 unit and Smithville City Police, but deputies from the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, is still the talk of the community.

This week two residents of the West Central Health District, one who lives in Sumter County and one who lives in Muscogee County, were confirmed positive for Novel Influenza A H1N1 virus otherwise known as swine flu.
