Arrest in 2nd mailbox bombing on Long Island
Police have arrested a 31-year-old man in a pipe bomb explosion that left a mailbox at a Long Island home in pieces.
Suffolk County police arson investigators say they arrested the South Huntington man on a felony charge of criminal mischief.
Police say Dix Hills residents reported hearing a loud boom and later found the exploded mailbox about 5:40 p.m. Thursday. Arson detectives later determined that a pipe bomb caused the explosion.
Police are trying to determine whether there is a connection with the a pipe bomb explosion that destroyed a mailbox at a Laurel Hill residence about 6:20 p.m. Thursday.

Fugitive suspect arrested at NYC airport
A man suspected in a fatal hit-and-run accident on Long Island has been arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport aboard a flight to Poland.
Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney Glenn Kurtzrock says 22-year-old Lukasz Bienczyk (BEE' en chik) confessed to the fatal hit-and-run accident after he was arrested Thursday night aboard a LOT Polish flight to Warsaw. The Lindenhurst resident is a Polish national.
Bienczyk pleaded not guilty at arraignment Friday to felony charges of leaving the scene of a fatal accident. He was ordered held pending bail of $150,000 cash or $450,000 bond.

2 die when speedboat overturns during NY bay race
A speedboat taking part in a race on a Long Island bay has overturned, killing two people.
Suffolk County police say the boat's driver and an assistant controlling its speed were the only people on board when it flipped Sunday afternoon. They say the operator and the throttleman were pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police say they don't know why the boat turned over during the Battle on the Bay race in the Great South Bay, a lagoon between Patchogue (PACH'-awg) and Fire Island.
Witnesses say the accident occurred far from shore and stopped the race.
