June 20 -- Jim Barber and his wife, Cindy, operate their family's 500-acre fifth-generation farm in Middlebugh in Schoharie County, 40 miles west of Albany.

Nearly two years after Tropical Storm Irene devastated the region with flooding, a series of thunderstorms producing torrential rains on already saturated grounds produced flash flooding across the county on Friday evening.

Flooding along Main Street in Middleburgh delayed Friday's elementary school dismissal and forced elementary, middle school and high school students taking Regents exams to seek shelter inside Middleburgh Elementary School, which is cut off by surrounding floodwaters, a district official said.
