Eight tornadoes hit southeastern South Dakota Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service says eight tornadoes were reported in South Dakota late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.

Huge bolts of lighting lit up the sky for hours in Sioux Falls as weather warnings popped up all over the area.

A tornado warning has been issued for northwest McCook, northern Hanson, northeast Davison, southern Miner and eastern Sanborn counties until 10 p.m. Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado seven miles south of Artesian moving southeast at 30 mph at 9:11 p.m., the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls said.
