Early voters turnout in local elections

Early voting in the May 9 city and school board elections ended Tuesday, May 5, indicating average turnouts in most elections as of Monday, May 4. In the Shepherd Independent School Board of Trustees election, where there is one contested race, 39 early votes had been cast as of Monday.

East Texas rancher James Kolek is among the fortunate - he's been rained on. Precipitation fell Thursday morning and a couple of times the past week on land Kolek manages in San Jacinto County, one of nearly two dozen counties in the eastern part of the state no longer in drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor map released Thursday.
