Downpour Damages Wildomar High School

Thunderstorm cells packed with heavy rain and wind damaged a high school in Wildomar today, but there were no reports of injuries. According to the Riverside County Fire Department, crews were called to Elsinore High School at 21800 Canyon Drive around 3 p.m. in response to weather-related damage.

Possible drowning in lake at PGA West

Cal Fire and the Riverside County Sheriff''s Department are on scene of a possible drowning in a pond at PGA West near Lake Cahuilla. According to Cal Fire they got the call just before 2:00 p.m. that a person possibly was drowning in a golf course pond on the golf course.

Heat Wave to Ease Up, But Humidity to Rise

The late-summer heat wave that has had parts of Riverside County sweltering is expected to start to ease up Tuesday night into Wednesday, but -- in terms of causing misery -- lower temperatures may be offset by humidity from Tropical Storm Odile, forecasters said. A National Weather Service heat advisory for the valleys will be in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday, as high pressure and a weak onshore air flow continue to send temperatures soaring.

Felon Sentenced to More Than a Decade Behind Bars for Lake Elsinore Shotgun Assault

An ex-convict who shot and nearly killed his Lake Elsinore neighbor has been sentenced to 14 years in prison. Riverside County Superior Court Judge Ronald Taylor imposed Friday the mid-term on Kevin Ronald Fulkerson for his convictions in July for attempted voluntary manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon and sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations for the April 9 shotgun attack on 59-year-old Steven Cook.

Riverside County District Attorney Paul Zellerbach will be headed to court next month to talk to the judge in the Pinyon Pines triple murder case. Robert Pape and Cristin Smith are charged in the murders of Becky Friedli her mother Vicki Friedli and Vicki's boyfriend, Jon Hayward at their home back in 2006.

Arson investigators looking into Bermuda Dunes fire

Firefighters and police officers were on the scene of an overnight duplex fire on the 78800 Block of Avenue 42 in Bermuda Dunes early Monday morning, a block west of Adams Street. The suspicious two-alarm blaze was first reported at 1:54 a.m., and contained to one unit of the unoccupied single story building approximately 40 minutes later.

Silverado Fire 50 percent contained, 968 acres burned

SILVERADO CANYON >> Day three of the Silverado Fire in eastern Orange County ended with the size of the blaze being downgraded from 1,600 acres to 968 acres, and with fire lines now scratched out around 50 percent of the flames. The Sunday evening assessment from the Cleveland National Forest is based on having more firefighters on the ground to better measure the scope of the fire, Orange County Fire Authority spokesman Bob Poole said.

Menifee Mayor Scott Mann today condemned what he described as "a scurrilous, repulsive and false campaign smear" against him and demanded that opponent Paul Wiggins repudiate the material in accordance with the Code of Fair Campaign Practices. Mann referred to a flier that has been hung on the front door of houses in the Sun City community of Menifee that includes defamatory statements about the mayor and reported facts that are not true.

National Weather Service issues heat advisory for Inland Empire

As temperatures crested to the triple digits throughout the Inland Empire, the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Riverside County and other parts of Southern California through Tuesday. The high temperatures, which have exceeded 100 degrees in places throughout the county, have been caused by a combination of high pressure and weak onshore flow, according to an NWS report.
