Fire district nearing approval of levy request

Fire district commissioners are expected to approve a resolution next week calling for increased property taxes to build a new fire station in Winthrop for Okanogan County Fire District 6. The district commission and staff will provide information and take comments about the proposed station and tax levy at its regular meeting on Monday , at 7 p.m.

Aeneas Valley couple lose home, pets

Friends of trailer owners Doug and Sherry Powell have offered the couple use of another trailer for a temporary residence but the couple needs food, clothing and food for their five surviving dogs, according to a press release from the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office.

Twisp man charged in home assault, robbery

James Ryan Jones of Twisp has been charged in Okanogan County Superior Court with first-degree assault and first-degree robbery in connection with the severe beating of a Twisp man on June 6. Both charges are Class A felonies in Washington state, punishable by up to life in prison and/or a fine of up to $50,000.
