Asparagus crop from Oceana County could be delayed -- but not damaged -- by cold, long winter

The only possible downside is that the crisp spears may be harvested slightly later than its usual first harvest of May 10. "The cold weather right now doesn't hurt the crop other than delaying our harvest," said Oceana County Farm Bureau President David Rabe.
