The article in the Gazette just says it was Monday morning.

Does anyone know the extent of Officer Bennett's injuries? I saw the mug shot of the Florida man on the Regional Jail Website, and he looks like he certainly took a beating.

I just wanted to post a little something about my husband and the events of last week. First off, my husband will not be going to the county commision for anything like a pay raise or whatever. If you dumb ignorant rednecks would open your eyes as to what these guys go out and do everyday, you would see what they go through everyday. I'm sure my husband has been to your house before on a call. All the people do is complain about officer's and what they do, they treated you unfairly, they are horrible for writing you that ticket, or whatever have it, but you are pretty quick to call them and need help. Stop breaking the law and they wouldn't have to be at your doorstep, it's that simple. Because it's dumb people like you who my husband, along with other officer's, go out and risk their lives for. You have no clue what it's like to go into public with people following you around and not knowing the revenge they have in their mind. It's the price you have to pay to be in law enforcement or married to someone in law enforcement.

As for my husband's injuries, thank you to those who have called or asked about my husband and for being sincere. It is greatly appreciated and nice to know there are people out there with hearts. I think whoever wrote that my husband broke a nail and is going crying to the county commision is stupid and absolutley heartless. I would hate to see what ignorant things you would have had to say if something worse had happened to him. You must not have loved ones or anyone who cares about you, because you obviously have no idea what its like to hear from someone that your husband was injured and you have NO CLUE what happened to him. It's the worse feeling in the world. I just looked at my daughter and couldn't imagine what she would think if her daddy never came home to her. Grow up and realize these men and ladies are trying to feed their families too! Just so you know, my husband and I have tried to get help but cannot because we take out for insurance and things to that nature, but I'm sure your soaking up the system, aren't you? Have a nice life and thank you to those who truly care!

I think our law enforcement are couragous and are not given enough respect. They put their lives in danger every day just to keep the citizens of Nicholas Co safe. We have a great county, less crimes than bigger cities, and we can thank them for keeping it that way.

so, as a county commission employee - u think that the deputies are the only ones who deserve raises? i have the utmost respect for the law enforcement. if one person in county government gets a raise then all should be given raises. fair is fair. just my opinion.

When you qualify for welfare and would take a bullet for a county commission employee, work every holiday, miss their kid's birthdays or their first footsteps, are expected to be professional while they are being spit on-fought-cussed-family threatened,be a marriage counselor-civil judge-raise people's kids. All of this and they don't know if they will come home at night......yes, they should get a raise.

And no, I am not employed by the NCSD.

To Officer and Mrs. Bennett,
God Bless you and your family. I don't live there but just came across the story. Don't give in to the crap people put on here. Do the best that you can and you will be rewarded for the effort. Good luck to both of you and hope your recovery is speedy.

I, too, wish Officer Bennett a speedy recovery. Not everyone in Nicholas County is ungreatful to the work of our Law Enforcement. Keep up the great work.
