Newberry student honored

At Piedmont Technical College's recent summer commencement exercises, outstanding students from each of the college's seven supporting counties were honored for academic achievement. Newberry County student Brandon Simon was honored for maintaining high academic success.

Community gets involved in Ag-Expo

Even though the weekend's weather alternated between muggy and stormy extremes, the Newberry County Agricultural Expo offered food, fun and excitement to those in attendance. The Ag Expo brought farm equipment, food, merchandise stands, an art display, live music and plenty of animals to Newberry County Fairgrounds with a big assist from Newberry County Future Farmers of America.

Little Mountain to address zoning change

Grants OK'd for economic development projects

Grants received included $1,000 for the group's planning for a Palmetto Trail event in April 2015. Mcmurtury said the board received $2,000 in grant money for the second veterans salute and antique car show next April.

Sheriff's office using new sign to reach public

The Newberry County Sheriff's Office is now using an electronic sign in their effort to engage more people in the partnership between law enforcement and the public. "We watched as businesses, restaurants, churches, schools, and the animal shelter installed electronic signs to reach more people and effectively communicate their messages to those often not reached through standard communication methods," said Sheriff Lee Foster.
