Small spot fire on Sutton Way

Firefighters establishing a line around the edge of a spot fire that started just behind the Glenbrook apartment complex on Sutton Way. The fire was contained at less than one quarter of an acre, and personnel on scene were mopping up in less than an hour.

Air Quality District Advisory

The Northern Sierra Air Quality Control Management District has issued a health advisory due to the smoke that is coming into Nevada County from area fires. Click here to listen to Gretchen Bennett Northern Sierra Air Quality Control Management District Director Gretchen Bennett says satellite imagery shows the smoke is coming from the King Fire.

6,000 firefighters battle 11 major wildfires across state

Dry conditions due to the drought, coupled with high temperatures and low humidity, allowed several of the larger fires to grow quickly, Cal Fire said. Courtney Fire in Madera County east of Oakhurst is 320 acres and 20 percent contained.

Now at 150 acres, Dog Bar Fire forcing mandatory evacuations in South County

A wildfire has grown to 25 acres along Dog Bar Road in South County, near Wolf Creek and Tiger Tail roads, threatening multiple structures. Heavy smoke from the fire along Dog Bar Road in South County can be seen from the waters of Rollins Lake.

Nevada County wildfire forces evacuations

The wildfire is burning near Dog Bar Road and Taylor Crossing Road, just east of Alta Sierra and about one mile west of Colfax. A wildfire in a heavily forested area near the Nevada County community of Alta Sierra has forced the evacuation of dozens of homes.

It's long been said that Nevada City sure loves a party, whether with large or small scale celebrations. Constitution Day Celebrated in Nevada City

The 48th annual Constitution Day celebration tops a weekend of festivities in Nevada City starting Friday with the The Delaware Regiment of the Brigade of the American Revolution offering living history demonstrations of Revolutionary War soldiers drilling and firing, music by the California Consolidated Drum Band, and colonial life living history all in Pioneer Park Friday through Sunday. Nevada County Court Executive Officer Sean Metroka says this is their second year of being here.

Sleeping bags found at Nevada City fire site

Sleeping bags, old fire pits and other signs of a transient encampment were found at or near the site of Sunday's 5-acre fire in Nevada City , a fire official said. "We were told there were some people living out there," said Nevada County Consolidated Deputy Fire Marshal Terry McMahan.

Hemig: The debate to hold the Measure S debate

For those who missed it, Measure S is a proposed revision to the county's existing medical marijuana cultivation ordinance on the Nov. 4 ballot. I've since learned that this topic is so controversial that while we could agree on having a debate, we couldn't get all parties to agree on a debate location.

Fire reported near Camptonville at Highway 49 and Ridge Road

Tahoe National Forest Walker fire off Walker Mill Road and jumped Celsetial Valley Road, towards a home, but North San Juan fire saved the home and a small out building was lost. Tahoe engines, Calfire, Nevada County fire strike team, Camptonville, CHP, two Calfire Air Tankers, two forest service helicopters responded to the fire.
