SALINAS >> A plan to replace two vacant emergency dispatcher positions with managers in an already understaffed 911 call center is getting the cold shoulder from the Monterey County Board of Supervisors and county union leaders. For the second time in two weeks, the supervisors declined to approve the proposed reorganization, which would reallocate two vacant Communications Dispatcher II positions to two Management Analyst III positions, and eliminate a vacant Emergency Communications Operations Supervisor position.

Monday morning the National Weather Service in Monterey issued an advisory for light rain to move into the north San Francisco Bay Area Wednesday evening with drizzle and light precipitation spreading south to at least Santa Cruz overnight.
A 28-year-old Benicia man was arrested near Big Sur on Sunday on suspicion of auto burglary and a false claim that his family had been killed, Monterey County sheriff's officials said. At 7:30 a.m. Sunday, the California Highway Patrol notified deputies about victims of an auto burglary in the Big Sur area who flagged down a passing CHP car, sheriff's Deputy Michael Smith said.
The Transportation Agency for Monterey County is launching a "Three Feet for Safety Act" awareness campaign as the new state law goes into effect Tuesday, Sept. 16. The law is aimed at improving safety for bicyclists and requires drivers provide at least three feet between any part of their vehicle and bicyclists when passing, Distribute 3-Feet for Safety vehicle stickers and outreach materials to Monterey County law enforcement agencies, local Department of Motor Vehicles offices, schools, civic institutions and the greater community.

Two people were arrested in Moss Landing Sunday, including a parolee at large, after a traffic stop on Highway 1. Monterey County Sheriff's deputies conducted a stop on a car driven by Angelina Segundo, 23, in the area of Molera Road and Highway 1 for numerous vehicle code violations.
