Two men who happened upon the scene of a car fire early Tuesday morning in Monroe Township pulled the driver from the 2001 Ford Escort.

Court Docket: Newport woman facing embezzling allegations

Michigan State Police at the Brighton post allege that a 39-year-old Newport woman -- identified by court records as Jennifer Kathleen Sweet -- was serving as acting camp director at Camp Munhacke on Bartell Road in Unadilla Township when she wrote a "couple" of payroll checks to a family member who did not work for the Boy Scouts or the camp.

Monroe Co. gets boost to road budgets

Monroe County will receive $664,992.85 from a special $100 million appropriation enacted by the Michigan Legislature and signed by Gov. Rick Snyder to help road-maintenance budgets depleted by severe winter conditions.
