E-cig policy part of update to Mohave County smoking rules

Johnson said someone was smoking a pipe in a Lake Havasu City courtroom and county employees have complained about people coming in with e-cigarettes and blowing smoke in their faces. Mohave County's no-smoking policy prohibits the smoking of tobacco products within 20 feet of public buildings, but leaves a loophole for chewing tobacco, nicotine gum and e-cigarettes.

Family of gun instructor killed by 9-year-old calls for love, prayer

The children of an Arizona weapons instructor have reached out to comfort the 9-year-old girl who accidentally killed their father during a shooting lesson, telling her they pray for her and offering her love and hugs. Charles Vacca, 39, a father of four from Lake Havasu City, was shot and killed Aug. 25 at the Last Stop gun range in White Hills when the girl lost control of the Uzi submachine gun she was using to practice.

Deli joining SHR fast food cluster

The cluster of fast-food restaurants along Stockton Hill Road will grow with the opening of Jimmy John's delicatessen in December, the franchise owners said Friday. It will be the second Jimmy John's location in Mohave County, said Alison Wofford, who opened the first one in Lake Havasu City in April with her husband, Paul.

Mohave County Fair off to a flying start

Rhonda Gold couldn't help but dig into her wallet Thursday and pull out a dollar to help underwrite surgery for Pocket's two broken front legs. "We're dog lovers," explained Gold, of Fort Mohave, as her 7-year-old daughter, Chels, petted the male Chihuahua mix sporting two large casts on his legs.

Man indicted in death of 8-year-old Arizona girl

A man arrested in the disappearance and death of an 8-year-old girl in northwestern Arizona was indicted Thursday on first-degree murder and other charges. A Mohave County grand jury also charged Justin James Rector with felony counts of child abuse, abandonment of a dead body and kidnapping a minor under the age of 15. Rector, 26, is being held without bond in the Mohave County Jail.

Hallucinating man ends up arrested

Doug McMurdo Miner Staff Reporter KINGMAN - For the third time in nine days, law enforcement officers in the Kingman area have arrested an area resident who appeared to be under the influence of drugs and completely untethered from reality. The latest is Donald Eugene Tuttle, III, 26, of Golden Valley, who was arrested at about noon on Tuesday in the 2600 block of Neal Avenue after two 911 callers told dispatchers that Tuttle was "carrying a flashlight and acting weird" and "tripping on drugs."

For Democrats, many hurdles to victory in Mohave County

Promises of an economic rebound made by current lawmakers have failed to materialize, according to state legislative candidate Joe Longoria, and that's what prompted his run for the Arizona Legislature. "We've been promised by our current legislators that they would bring jobs and opportunities to Kingman, and it's not happening," said Longoria.

Warrant sweep rounds up 10 in Dolan Springs

Doug McMurdo Miner Staff Reporter DOLAN SPRINGS - Ten Dolan Springs residents were rounded up Monday when the Mohave County Sheriff's Office conducted a warrant sweep in the area. Half of them were arrested only on misdemeanor warrants, but three were arrested on additional felony charges and one was wanted on a felony warrant.

Recruitment of replacement judge to start soon
