Kennel gets approved, with limit on dogs

This is a wonderful dog rescue that has helped many local dogs. They help the dogs rehabilitate by fully vetting and nurturing them. They are highly dedicated to helping canines and should be allowed to have more than six dogs! Their location is perfect to help many more dogs and we need them. They have served the local community where there is no other place to put strays and should be awarded the keys to the city, not limited in what they do so well. This rescue does not cost the community a dime. It is completely funded by their own funding. They place the dogs in good homes after screening the applicants carefully. Please let them have the requested amount to be able to do their job.

I have enjoyed working with Kathy Johnson of KARE as she takes such good care of the stray and unwanted dogs from the area. As a former veterinary technician, she has the experience to identify health concerns and addresses these promptly with the help of her veterinarian. She temperament tests the dogs prior to placement and doesn't adopt out aggressive dogs. Kathy fully evaluates adopters to make sure the dogs are going to safe homes. Adoption fees pay the costs to run her rescue and she does not request or receive any county or other governmental money. KARE is a model that should be replicated. Mille Lacs County should be very pleased to have a dog rescuer as capable as Kathy Johnson to serve the unwanted dogs in its area. I urge the commissioners to expand the number of dogs under her kennel license to 20.
