Dave....thanks so much for carrying this story. I believe we will need to get the community together on this and fight to keep this coal fly ash out of our landfill. Perhaps a community meeting in the near future would be the best way to get started. We can share data and develop a plan to work with our elected officials...lest we forget, it is an election year.

Wendy,
I just got an e-mail from Mayor Arp stating that he agreed with you and your letter. I believe you got that e-mail too. If he's willing to provide the leadership on this, he's in a good position to do it. Let him do so, regardless of whatever disagreements anyone has had with him in the past. Those are my thoughts. |

I'm not suprised that Loudon county is accepting fly ash, they have turned their back to the horrible polluting companies for years. Now they are leaving the citizens open to a new source of chemicals that have the possiblity to kill them with new chemicals. Now you know why Loudon is considered, cancer county.

Have you seen anywhere that Loudon County (either its government or its residents) are "accepting" this ash? Have you read anywhere that the state has even given them a choice? If so, please show me. |

Dave, the News Sentinel article from Sat announcing the solid waste meeting, states, "According to Fields, Santec, the company that operates the landfill for the county, did not inform the commission in advance that there was a possibility of accepting the coal fly ash from TVA. The landfill already accepts fly ash from different sources, including the Kimberly Clark plant in Loudon, he said." http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2009/jul/11/resi... |

Yes, that might be the fly ash Nancy was referring to - the ash from the local K.C. plant. She didn't say but that could be. I think there's a good chance this is going to be stopped. The same article you referred to indicates that Rep. Ferguson and Sen. McNally are involved now. No state agency, TDEC included, ignores those people. Turn out for the meeting if possible. |

1 I have heard from someone on the inside that will probably NOT receive this fly ash, as it is currently being sent to Alabama, but the same person has removed themselves from the clean-up effort because, "TVA doesn't seem to be learning their lesson". Scary, huh?!!! Hopefully, there will be a good turn out tomorrow night and together, we will stand and fight this. I would encourage EVERYONE concerned to write to McNally, Ferguson and Matlock.(See thehunterreport.com for a list of elected officials and their email address). |
