I read the article. Very sad news. I'm glad I don't live there. At least here the cops (I hate them)don't take the law in their own hands and shoot to kill someone after swimming w/ friends.

For decades the taxpayers have spent many dollars trying to help the people of Kasota deal with their drug/alcohol problem.

A quick google will prove that about seventy-five percent of everything which goes wrong in this culture is drug/alcohol related: divorce, acidents, death, lawsuits, murder, child abuse, domestic violence, name it. It's a disease on our society.

This young man's last expense to taxpayers was falling into a fire pit and needing brain surgery. It sounds like he would have eventually self-destructed.

How much money has to be spent before the solution is simply to let people self-destruct or help them along? It may be the solution of the future.

People under the influence don't make life-preserving decisions. Sad.

Were you there? Stop making judgments based on media hype. Do know he was swimming that day? No, the media told you he was. Don't make hasty judgments without knowing. That is how people get hurt.

To all who hate Law Enforcement, I have to laugh when they are the first people you call when something dont go your way or you feel violated by others. They have a job to do, unlike most in Kasota, and over all they do it well. I do believe when the rest of the story comes out, the death will be ruled as justified and again you make excuses for your/his behavior. No Police Officer wants to go out and shoot a suspect, however they also have a life and family to go home too. I believe this is a thank less job and I respect those who do it for us.

Have you been to Kasota. Most people do have jobs there and support themselves. Kasota has it's problems but don't add to them by making things up you have no idea about. Maybe only the people you know are unemployed.

I hate law enforcement, and have ever since a gung-ho cop pulled his gun on me at a traffic stop in 1976. I am a law-abiding citizen, pay taxes, and have never been without at least one paying job for more than 13 days in my life. I have attended church almost every Sunday since I was a child, and am involved in my community. I do not/will not call the police, for anything, because I do not want to get shot at again. Next time they may not miss.

The poster that feels this shooting will be ultimately justified is probably right. Waldron will face no consequences. Heilman may well have been some kind of loser, but I don't know that, and I don't think that could justify this.

This is 1st degree murder!! If i chase someone down, fight with them and pull out a gun and unload it into the victim, i go to prison for murder. Why do cops get off without any consequences? This is murder!

I can't believe people like you are actually allowed to vote or even post on forums like this. Anybody that is willing to make assumptions from what the media gives them is just plain ignorant. Wait till all the facts are in from our BCA. Get your story right... My prayers are for both families.

The Police are a different breed, they are the ones that react, and are adrenaline junkies...So yes they want to get out there and shoot someone. Hopefully the correct bad guy..But they are on edge and trained to make snap decisions. Any confrontation with a cop, such as a traffic stop, or public appearance at a scouting event has the potential of being a life and death situation because a cop has a gun. Either the cop is going to use it to defend himself or the pubic, or has to worry that the guns is going to be taken from him/her and used against them. The law is 100% in the cops favor, even when they screw up. Stop being a blind person, and get the facts before you talk.

I hope to god you're kidding. There is no cop that wants to "go out there and shoot someone". Do you have any idea what happens to an officer meantally after he/she pulls the trigger? There are many books and research out there on this subject. I would recommend you do your research before commenting. The number #1 rule in law enforcement is to go home at the end of your shift...The Deputy did what he had to do to go home to his family.
