Sollie Accepts ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Officers Receive CIT Certification
Law enforcement officers from several area counties have been certified as crisis intervention officers. The officers were recognized for the intensive training at a graduation ceremony at Meridian City Hall.

MCC Continues Dual Enrollment Program
Officials from Meridian Community College, Meridian Public Schools and Lauderdale County Schools gathered Thursday to sign a memo of understanding about MCC's Dual Enrollment program. High school students in Lauderdale County and Meridian Public Schools have the opportunity to get a jump start on their college education by enrolling for classes at MCC.

Sollie Reacts to Local Federal Drug Arrests
Nearly two dozen people in east central Mississippi have been indicted on federal drug charges relating to a major meth operation. Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie says a coast to coast investigation by federal authorities has led to 20 arrests so far.
EMBDC Board Searches for New Director
The Board of Directors for the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation says it's not in a big rush to find a replacement director. Wade Jones worked with the EMBDC for over a decade.
Man charged with murder in Meridian slaying
One person is charged with murder and another is charged with aiding in the shooting death of a Meridian man. The Meridian Star reports that 20-year-old Jacoby Dixon is charged with murder and is being held without bond in the Lauderdale County Detention Facility.

Ethics body sets hearing on open meeting complaint
The Mississippi Ethics Commission has set a hearing date for an ethics complaint charging that Lauderdale County supervisors violated the state's open meetings law during discussions of a bond issue in 2013. The Meridian Star reports the commission took no action Friday on two complaints pending against the board, but set one for an Oct. 20 hearing.

Local Leaders Talk about Taxes for Upcoming Budget
The city of Meridian is getting closer to finalizing a budget for the coming year, and officials are hopeful it will not include a tax increase. Councilman George Thomas spoke about the budget at Monday's meeting of the Lauderdale County Council of Governments.

Authorities Continue to Search for Fatal Shooting Suspect
The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department has not yet located the person responsible for fatally shooting a man last weekend. 27-year old Raphael Robert Taylor was discovered on a stretch of Earl Haney Road just after midnight on Friday, August 29th.
Former Meridian officer files appeal
A former Meridian police officer is appealing his conviction of forging a subpoena, while employed as a police officer, to obtain his wife's phone records. In documents filed with the state Court of Appeals , Terrell Thompson argues he was denied the right to present his defense to a Lauderdale County jury.

A local business spent Friday cleaning up after burglars attempted to steal numerous items, which led to a police chase. The furniture is now back where it belongs inside of two mobile homes at Johnson Dream Homes on South Frontage Road.

Detective Dareall Thompson says it all started about 8:00 in the 2600 block of South Frontage Road. Thompson says a security guard at a business spotted a strange vehicle.
