Fresno County'a unemployment drops to level not seen since 2008

July's unemployment rate was 10.8%. That's a .4 percentage increase from June, but it marked the lowest unemployment total since July 2008, when the rate was 8.8%.

Teen killed by train in Hanford is identified

A boy killed by a freight train early Monday in Hanford was identified by the Kings County Coroner as Manuel Luna, 16. Luna was struck by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe train near 11th Avenue and Ivy Street about 2 a.m. while trying to cross the tracks.

On Thursday, Judge Vance Ray of the California Appeals Court Third District cleared the way for the State to start to issue the $9 billion in bonds for the California High Speed Rail project called for in Proposition 1A , the voter-approved ballot measure that authorized the high speed rail project.

Appellate court overturns high-speed rail rulings

A state appellate court on Thursday overturned two lower court rulings that had stalled funding for California's $68 billion bullet train, handing a big win to the project and allowing the state to resume selling bonds to pay for it.
