For the shoppers this rummage sale has so much quantity (and quality?) and good prices. I wouldn't miss it. The donors and the shoppers, as well as the Humane Society workers, should feel so good about what they are contributing to the cause.

You are right Elle1...i went there today and there were a lot of good stuff there and the prices were GREAT. I love to donate to the humane society. I work at a vet's office and my heart breaks everytime we get in a poor abused and/or abandon animal. We helped with the "Todd Puppymill" dogs that were so severely abused and neglected. I ended up adopting a little poodle that nobody else would take because she didn't trust anybody..(she had a good reason).I worked with her for 3 months while she stayed at the vets office and I was the only one she would let touch her. I already had 2 dogs but I had to bring her home. She has come a long way in a year. Thanks to all the people who donate to this cause and to all the people who work there and volunteer. You all deserve a big THANK YOU!!!!

They need volunteers to work a few hours a day.People grip about the strays but don't want to give just a few hours a week. Retired, disabled, students, and part-time workers would really be ideal for volunteer work.Three or four people cannot do this alone.Everything we try to accomplish in Johnson County goes under because residents don't want to contribute or get lose interest.

The strays have nothing to do with the building. The strays you see are out there courtesy of the huge number of irresponsible -- but no doubt "saved" -- dog and cat owners and the county government's unwillingness to enforce state leash laws or implement an animal control program.

My teenage son wanted to volunteer this past summer, but I was told by a volunteer for the humane society that teenagers had to be supervised by their parents.
My husband and myself both work full time jobs and would have had a difficult time "supervising" our son while he volunteered his time.
Why does a willing and able body teenager have to be supervised by a parent in order to volunteer at the humane society?

You'd best take that up with your friendly, neighborhood state legislators.

On this subject, I need to take my kitten Beowulf for a checkup and his shots. Can anyone recommend a vet, NOT Taylors Animal Clinic, please.

We take our dogs and cats to New River Veterinary Clinic (close to Boone Mall). We have gone to Dr. Thompson for years, but the other two vets that are in with him are good too. Certainly understand you not wanting to go to Taylor's Clinic.

The people I know who use VCA Highlands Animal Hospital in Abingdon say they're happy and satisfied.

Hi PP...
Bring your animals to Animal Medical Center of Boone. That is where I work:),,Dr. Cara Roten is the vet and she really cares for the health and well being of your pet. She does her best to charge as least as possible.

Yes, c for c, I know I will fall over when I hear the cost, but it is the price we pay. Give us an approximate.

Daily Horoscope for January 3

Aries

There is a strong focus on career and parental matters today. You need to be cautious regarding your dealings with someone in authority - things may not be what they seem. This is also a good day to spend time with your partner. Communication in general should prove to be smoother sailing than usual so this would be an opportune time to discuss delicate matters with others. Good news in the evening is indicated.
