Man charged in hammer attack denied release

A Terre Haute man accused of striking his 12-year-old stepchild in the head with a claw hammer was denied bail reduction Tuesday in Vigo Superior Court Division 6. Charles McVay, 26, told Judge Michael Lewis that if released from jail on his own recognizance, he could stay with an aunt in the Hendricks County community of Avon.
