An iconic South Dakota animal, the black-tailed prairie dog, will get another shot at being listed as an endangered species, a notion that has state ranchers concerned about losing tracts of grazing land.

In an effort to someday reduce dependency on foreign oil, we're seeing more exploration for oil within the United States.

Most of South Dakota's oil wells are in Harding County, and the huge run-up in oil prices is spurring additional exploration in the county.

As these companies construct a crude-oil pipeline in eastern South Dakota, they propose to build a connecting one here.

After a day-and-a-half of almost nonstop rain, there is a bit of relief in the forecast, but don't expect things to dry out in a hurry.

Residents in Harding County and the Black Hills area are being advised to look out for flooding from heavy rains that are following record rainfall.

Power is still out for many people in Northwest South Dakota. The manager of Grand Electric says 375 Harding County residential customers along with 375 commercial accounts are without power. via KOTA

“There might be 75 to 100 poles down in Harding County. So we're going to be maybe a week without electricity, so everyone's got generators running.”
