The Greenwood Soup Kitchen served around 40,000 hot meals last year, a nearly 70 percent increase over just four years ago. It was an idea from some local potters that sparked the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser which allowed the soup kitchen to keep up with the growing demand for their services.

A Ware Shoals man is facing charges after he reportedly fled the scene of accident, leaving behind two injured friends at the scene. Joseph Gray Darnell, 19, of 66 Kaolin Drive, Ware Shoals, has been charged with driving under suspension, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and leaving the scene of ana accident with injuries in connection with the incident.
Mr. Alvin "Ace Boogie" Jones 29, of 202 Coleman Street passed September 6, 2014 at Hospice Care of the Piedmont. He was born in Greenwood County a son of Estelle Jones and Alvin Williams.
A Greenwood man is facing a charge of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature following an incident in which a woman sustained fractures in her leg and foot. Michael Redden Wheless, 40, of 129 Perch St., has been charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature in connection with the incident.
A Greenwood man was arrested over the weekend after being served a warrant related to a July incident in which he reportedly assaulted a woman with a piece of pipe. Willie Thomas Gary, 53, of 131 Orange St., has been charged with criminal domestic violence high and aggravated in nature in connection with the incident.
A quiet Sunday afternoon was shattered about 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon after a fire destroyed the kitchen of one of Greenwood's oldest restaurants. Emergency crews responded to The Ranch and Pizza Palace, located in the K-Mart shopping plaza, after receiving a report of the building being on fire.
