The Silver City League of United Latin American Citizens Council 8003 held its 30th Annual Scholarship and Student of the Month Awards Celebration at WNMU on Saturday, July 27. Eighteen students received college scholarships and seven Cobre and Silver High School students received Student of the Month Awards.

Grant County Sheriff's Office hosts D.A.R.E. conference next week

The Grant County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the New Mexico D.A.R.E. Officers' Association, will host a D.A.R.E. conference at the Grant County Business and Conference Center from July 30 to Aug. 1. The purpose of the conference is recertification of all NM D.A.R.E. officers and the new curriculum to be used this school year.

Grant County resident receives serious injuries when motorcycle is run off the road

According to New Mexico State Police Sgt. Scott Merrill, a motorcycle and its operator were involved in a crash on U.S. Highway 180 between mile markers 24 and 25 near Hurley at 12:40 p.m., on Wednesday, July 23. The motorcyclist, whose identity was ascertained from unofficial sources, is Don White Jr. of Grant County.

Man arrested for home invasion in Silver City

SILVER CITY >>Jeff Rivers, 31, was arrested Thursday for aggravated burglary, larceny, false imprisonment and one count of resisting, evading or obstructing an officer, according to a police report.
