Escaped Grant County Detention Center inmates still at large

SILVER CITY >> Adam Martinez and Tyler Cole, the two men who broke out of the Grant County Detention Center Thursday night, are still at large, Grant County Sheriff Raul Villanueva said. But Villanueva added that a sighting of Martinez on Sunday night led to a pursuit by Grant County Sheriff's deputies.

Two men escape Grant County Detention Center same day Grant County...

SILVER CITY >> Two men escaped from the Grant County Detention Center sometime between 9 and 10 p.m. Thursday, according to a news release from Grant County Attorney and former Interim Manager Abby Robinson. The two men, Adam Martinez and Tyler Cole, are believed to be members of a gang and considered dangerous.

SILVER CITY >> In a chilly wind under gray skies, a few dozen stalwarts huddled around a beer tent outside Fort Bayard Medical Center on Saturday. A sign strung up along a fence read Walk for the Troops, and a few people wore bright red shirts, indicating that they'd made the march from Hurley that morning.

Red Hot Children's Fiesta Fills Penny Park

Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., throngs of kids and adults took over Penny Park for the 2014 Red Hot Children's Fiesta. Kids of all ages took part in the many activities, including the planting of the butterfly garden by area 4-H and FFA students.

Two Inmates Escape from Grant County Detention Center

On the evening of September 11, 2014, shortly after 10:00 p.m., Grant County Detention Center Officers discovered two inmates, Adam Martinez and Tyler Cole, missing from the M3 Pod of the Male Unit. The M3 Pod is a dormitory type cell that held nine inmates.

Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest will hold its second annual Women of Distinction luncheon that honors 10 Southern New Mexico women who "distinctly serve as role models by demonstrating leadership in making a profound difference in their communities and creating lasting change for tomorrow," according to a release. Honorees receiving this year's awards are Caroline Baldwin, Jo Tice Bloom, Mary Carter, Dawn Hommer, Rosemary McLoughlin, Megan McQueen, Jennifer Montoya, Linda Ott, Nema Rivers Le-Cuyer and Michel Meunier.

Grant County Commissioners approve sale of bond

SILVER CITY >> Grant County commissioners approved the sale $6.2 million in bonds that will go toward a new substance abuse treatment center, and rehabbing the conference center and District Courthouse. Mark Valenzuela, of George K. Baum and Co., briefed commissioners, calling the sale of the 30-year bonds "a fantastic result."

NM Search and Rescue team find hunter lost in the Gila Wilderness

SILVER CITY >> New Mexico State Police initiated a search and rescue in the Gila National Forest on Tuesday that ended happily. New Mexico Search and Rescue found the lost man, Sam Newton, 27, of Portales, and reunited him with his family, according to a police report.

Hanover's water problem still not solved

SILVER CITY >> After more than six months, Hanover is still in a water crisis - and while some financial issues have been resolved, the inability to pump water from Hanover wells is likely to last until the end of the year. With one 500-foot well completely down and a second well only pumping for a couple of hours each day, the Hanover Mutual Domestic Water Consumer Association must pay Bayard $1,300 a month to supply water to 107 houses in Hanover.
