Gov. Scott, DeSantis visit Flagler County

Gov. Rick Scott and U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis each paid a visit to Flagler County in the past week in an effort to solidify support for their respective campaigns. Scott's campaign bus rolled into Palm Coast early Tuesday and stopped at Grace's Place deli on Palm Coast Parkway where he was greeted by a throng of supporters chanting "four more years" and "let's keeping working."

Elections chief, Palm Coast still at odds over early voting, parking

The intention was to achieve a peaceful agreement and an end to the bickering and accusations. The chairwoman of the Flagler County Canvassing Board said she wanted the city of Palm Coast and the county's elections supervisor to work together, smooth out their differences and share the city's community center during early voting without further conflict.

Flagler deputies seeking theft suspects

Flagler County sheriff's detectives are asking for help from the public in identifying two individuals believed responsible for several thefts of activated prepaid Visa credit cards that occurred Wednesday in Palm Coast. The two people entered various Kangaroo Express stores in Palm Coast and requested to purchase a $500 prepaid Visa credit card at each location, according to a media release from the Sheriff's Office.

Men sought in prepaid credit card thefts

Flagler County detectives are seeking the public's help in identifying two men responsible for several thefts of activated prepaid Visa credit cards Wednesday in Palm Coast. Deputies said the men entered various Kangaroo Express stores and requested to purchase a $500 prepaid Visa credit card at each location.

Bunnell man arrested following suspicion of firing shotgun

Deputies arrested a Bunnell man Thursday night following allegations he struck another man with a baseball bat and fired at least one shot from a shotgun. Martin August Wright, 54, denied firing a weapon, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

Treatment center may take on rape crisis services in Volusia, Flagler

A Daytona Beach nonprofit that provides drug abuse and mental health recovery services may add a rape crisis program to its mission as the community grapples with the closure of the Children's Advocacy Center of Volusia and Flagler. During a meeting at the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County on Thursday, Stewart Marchman Behavioral Healthcare CEO Chet Bell said his nonprofit may apply for certification to become a Rape Crisis Center that would be funded through state grants.

Humane societies and animal advocacy groups in Volusia and Flagler counties are teaming up with PetSmart this weekend for an adoption event offering more than 100 dogs, cats and even rabbits. The local version of the chain pet store's National Adoption Weekend will run 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Daytona Beach store at 1900 W. International Speedway Blvd. All of the pets available for adoption are spayed or neutered and current on vaccinations, organizers said.

Fallen Heroes Memorial in Palm Coast invokes the powerful memories of 9/11

Hundreds of people braved the brutal sun Thursday to attend a 9/11 remembrance at Heroes Memorial Park. Wreaths were presented, speeches were given, bagpipes played and various moments of silence were requested for the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives the morning four hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York; the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia; and a rural field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Weak Bahamas rain system likely won't impact Volusia, Flagler

Meteorologists are watching closely as a weak trough causing cloudiness and showers over the Bahamas moves slowly west toward South Florida. The National Hurricane Center stopped short of calling it a low pressure system on Wednesday but said the trough has a slight potential to develop slowly into a tropical cyclone after it drifts across South Florida and the Florida Keys over the next couple days.

Flagler canvassing board to tackle multiple issues

Supervisor of Elections Kimberle Weeks hopes a special meeting of the Flagler County Canvassing Board on Friday will resolve a number of matters before the general election in November. “During previous canvassing board meetings, I raised the concern that I felt parking provisions were not being provided to accommodate disabled voters at the Palm Coast Community Center during early voting,” Weeks said Wednesday in an email response to questions.

Bunnell man accused of beating woman passenger, DUI

A Bunnell motorist is accused of beating a woman passenger and DUI after he was spotted driving “all over the road” by a Flagler County sheriff's commander, according to a Bunnell Police Department report. Group members apply extra coat of love for displaced children

Every year for the last 10 years, members of the Palm Coast Decorative Painters have painted boxes to give to children being served by the state's 7th Circuit Court Guardian ad Litem Program for Flagler County. The Guardian ad Litem program represents children who are being removed from their homes and placed into foster homes or other alternate living arrangements due to safety concerns.
