Joblessness Takes Half Percent Jump in October in Effingham County

Unemployment continued to rise in Effingham County in October. The Illinois Department of Employment Security reported the county's October jobless rate at 8.4%.A That's a half percent jump from the 7.9% rate in September, and it compares to a 6.4% rate in October of 2008.

An Indianapolis resident was injured in a crash in Fayette County Sunday. The crash happened along I-70 west of Vandalia.A State police report a vehicle driven by 47-year-old Rebekah Lear Sanders ran off the road and into a ditch, through the ditch and into a creek.

An Auburn man was injured in an early morning ATV crash Sunday. State police say 21-year-old Christopher Schmid lost control of the ATV in a curve on a rural road three miles northwest of Brownstown at 12:50am.A Schmid was thrown from the unit.
