Crews battled about a dozen major wildfires across California on Monday that have forced thousands of people to flee, damaged or destroyed more than 100 buildings, and charred thousands of acres of drought-stricken forest. Three years of drought in the most populous U.S. state has forced farmers to let fields lie fallow and left communities reliant on well water, with bone-dry brush fueling wildfires in temperatures of more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit .

There was a fire shelter deployment on the King Fire, which is burning 11 miles east of Placerville, California north of the community of Pollock Pines. In listening to the radio traffic, A Division Supervisor talking to Air Attack said a Task Force was overrun by fire, they were in a safety zone, but they were safe.

CHICO >> Over the weekend, air tankers were landing in Chico, loading up with orange retardant and heading to fires in El Dorado County. Fire Captain Matt Davis at the Chico Air Attack Base at the Chico airport said this morning that the base was busy with air tankers replenishing their supplies and heading to El Dorado County.
Firefighters were working to corral the King fire near Pollock Pines and also protect homes as the wildland blaze continued to burn Monday in El Dorado County. The fire began about 6:30 p.m. Saturday and as of late Sunday night had consumed 3,000 acres of heavy timber in steep terrain.
High temperatures and tinder dry conditions are making it difficult to get a handle on the fires. One is in Mendocino County and two are in the Sierra Foothills.
Hundreds of residents were forced to flee their homes on Sunday as wildfires raged through parts of drought-plagued northern California, officials said. Roughly 1,000 Madera County residents were ordered to evacuate as one blaze, dubbed the Courtney Fire, charred some 320 acres , California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention said.
A state fire spokesman says a blaze that started near the resort town of Bass Lake in Central California on Sunday has prompted the mandatory evacuation of 500 homes. In Northern California, a 2,000-acre wildfire near the town of Pollock Pines has forced the evacuation of 130 homes.
The King Fire in El Dorado County off King of the Mountain Road, east of Pollock Pines has Burned 100 acres and is 10 percent contained.
