20% absenteeism is SUPPOSED to be the point where school is canceled -- and not just for the Flu ----
But really, KUDOS to the custodians, teachers and bus drivers who have worked in keeping the schools sanitized --- Not so happy with those who are NOT enforcing isolation and masking policies though --- "This too shall pass" ----- |

It is getting more widespread in the school system than they realize. They are not documenting the cases unless they have been swabbed positive and for one the accuracy rate of the swab is not good it gives false negatives frequently. Also, not all the doctors' are even bothering with swabs now, if kids have the correct symtpoms then they are diagnosed with H1N1, and the schools are not counting these children as having it. I think a lot of parents are sending the kids back too early as well and this is exposing many other children. It is obviously going to get worse before it gets better!

I had heard about the Drs. not testing also --- this is disturbing --- There are going to be cases that are incorrectly counted both ways skewing the whole picture ---
I still believe that if a kid gets sick, prior to them being sent home the school system (using Health dept. resources) need to be swabbed. |

I agree not only does this help get an accurate count but also helps the parent in deciding when to see the doctor. I for one have been taking them in for every sniffle to get checked to reassure the school that either they are not contagious or that it is not the flu. I am sure they are sick of seeing my kids coming but cant be to safe I guess......also giving the antivirals in cases that they may not be needed sure does decrease the effectiveness down the road and I hate to see what could happen then....

The school also needs to confirm that the children have the flu. I already know of several teens who are using the flu as an excuse to miss school...even though they haven't been sick. My nephew just got out of the hospital in another state. He spent a week in ICU with this flu. It's nothing to joke around with!

I agree, it is very scary some people that are recovering are actually having to go to rehabilitation centers to learn how to control their muscles and movements all over again....the scariest part of this all is that I have been told of several occasions where vaccinated individuals have actually caught full blown cases of this flu. I wish we could do more to avoid exposure but at this point not sure exactly how to do anymore..If you are sick, stay home people!!!

Here's a sad thing --- You, as a responsible parent, take your kids to the Dr. for every sniffle --- What are they being exposed to while in the Dr.'s office????
I was taught to change my clothes as I came though the door, wash, wash, wash, dishes weren't allowed to sit around --- they were rinsed and then placed into clorox water while waiting to be washed or placed in the dishwasher --- All surfaces in the bathrooms and kitchen as well as door handles were cleaned daily with clorox water--- Clothes worn were washed daily --- |
