Glavine says momentum will be maintained in new management zone

Nova Scotia's health minister says local health care needs will not be threatened under the new provincial health authority management zones. Cumberland County is again being grouped in with Colchester-East Hants and Pictou County - as was the case when the Northern Regional Health Board existed in the mid-1990s under the former John Savage Liberal government.

Red Springs officer arrested on drug charges

The State Bureau of Investigation says a Red Springs police lieutenant is accused of fraudulently obtaining narcotic painkillers in four counties. A statement on the agency's website says 48-year-old George "Tommy" Thomas Wright Jr. was arrested in Lumberton after an investigation.

Warden says it's too late to stop wind farm

Halfway through its environmental assessment and set to be up and running by the end of 2015, can the wind farm being developed on the edge of Amherst be stopped? That was one of several questions put to Keith Hunter, county warden, during Tuesday's meeting at the Amherst Golf Club. He explained to the 120 people attending the meeting that a lot of time and effort went into developing the wind turbine bylaw for Cumberland County.

Pa. court won't toss case of alleged $1.3M theft from Hampden Township

A Lackawanna County businessman accused of misusing $1.3 million paid to him by Hampden Township for a street light project has lost his bid to have criminal charges filed against him in Cumberland County thrown out. Patrick J. McLaine's defeat came Monday when the state Superior Court rejected his argument that he will face illegal double jeopardy if he goes in trial in the Cumberland case.

Four Energy Firms Form Joint Pipeline Venture

Four major U.S. energy companies - Dominion, Duke Energy, Piedmont Natural Gas, and AGL Resources - announced Tuesday morning the formation of a joint venture to build and own the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline, according to a press release from Dominion. Initially proposed by Dominion as the Southeast Reliability Project, "the $4.5 billion to $5 billion, 550-mile natural gas pipeline would run from Harrison County, West Virginia, southeast through Virginia with an extension to Chesapeakeand then south through central North Carolina to Robeson County," the release notes.
