New study shows Chenango lagging in quality lodging: Up to $800,000...

The county Board of Supervisors this week saw results of an accommodations study that affirms a long-held notion that the lack of quality lodging in Chenango is putting the county at an economic disadvantage. The study, carried out by Susan Payne, a strategic planning and economic development consultant contracted by the Development Chenango Corporation , provides a snapshot of the supply and demand of available accommodations in the county, including hotels, motels, inns and bed and breakfasts.

Blood found in Ramsaran house, van: Investigator does not positively ID source

Blood was found in Jennifer Ramsaran's van and in her home, although the source of that blood was not positively identified by the New York State Police forensic investigator, according to testimony given Thursday at the Chenango County Courthouse. In the ninth day of the Ganesh R. Ramsaran murder trial, Jason Miller of the New York State Police testified that he searched through Jennifer Ramsaran's minivan at the Chenango County Sheriff's Office on Dec. 17, 2012.

Local CSEA union to vote again today on labor deal

County employees in the CSEA Unit 6400 labor organization will vote again today on a contract that was initially voted down earlier in the summer. The negotiated settlement, which has been in the works between county officials and the labor union through most of the year, was shot down in a 112 to 105 vote in July, according to the CSEA Unit 6400 Facebook page.

Teachout favored in Chenango, still unable to defeat Cuomo

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Zephyr Teachout came out the victor in Chenango County in Tuesday's primary election, but fell short of upsetting Governor Andrew Cuomo in statewide polling results. According to the Associated Press, Cuomo ultimately defeated Teachout in what was a closer than expected race.

MErules Jennifer Ramsaran death a homicide, cause of death uncertain

Jennifer Ramsaran's death was ruled a homicide, testified Onondaga Chief Medical Examiner Robert Stoppacher Tuesday at the Chenango County Courthouse. Stoppacher testified that he received Jennifer's body on Feb. 27, 2013, the day after Chenango County Sheriff's Office Deputy Kelly Hayner said her father located what he thought was a dead body on his land in Pharsalia.

Trial underway for man charged in wife's slaying

A murder trial is underway in a central New York courtroom where a former IBM program manager is charged with killing his wife. The Daily Star of Oneonta reports that the Onondaga County medical examiner testified Tuesday that Jennifer Renz Ramsaran's death was a homicide and she apparently had been hit in the head before she died.

With general elections only two months away, Republican lieutenant governor hopeful Chris Moss made a campaign stop in Chenango County on Wednesday to discuss concerns that are at the forefront for local voters.
