Fire levels 3 Moncks Corner mobile homes

Berkeley County fire officials are investigating after a massive fire destroyed multiple mobile homes in Moncks Corner. Dispatchers say the call came in at 3:19 a.m. Tuesday to an area near Ophir Street at Broughton Road.

Seven-Year-Old Fatally Hit by Car in Berkeley County

The Post and Courier reports that the boy ran into the road at a school bus stop around 6:30 a.m., when he was hit by a 70-year-old man driving an SUV. According to the Post and Courier, the coroner ruled the boy's death an accident.

Five people killed statewide in weekend wrecks, preliminary numbers show

The S.C. Department of Public Safety reported 510 people killed statewide in fatal wrecks between Jan. 1 and Sept. 14. In 2013, 531 deaths were reported during the same time period, state officials said.

Man shot at Goose Creek apartment complex dies

The coroner has identified a man who was shot in a Harbour Lake Drive apartment complex Sunday night. According to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury, 27-year-old Joshua Holmes of Ladson was taken to Trident Hospital where he passed away.

Player is one of 105 people employed at Pegasus Steel, a 103,000-square-foot factory where lasers, water jets and other instruments slice through large sheets of steel to make parts used by the military, maritime, aerospace and transportation industries.

Berkeley County Sheriff's Office investigating shooting

An 18-year-old man suffered a minor wound from a gunshot Sunday morning at a home in Berkeley County, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office. The teen called 911 at around 6:45 a.m. Sunday reporting that he'd been shot, said Berkeley County Sheriff's spokesman Dan Moon.

Summerville woman dies in College Park Road accident

According to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury, 73-year-old Janice Barnes-Hagberg of Summerville was a passenger in a vehicle involved in collision on College Park Road at 11:44 a.m. The vehicle she was riding in was struck by a dump truck. She was transported to MUSC and died at 6:03 p.m. from injuries received in the wreck, Salisbury reported.

The principal of an award-winning Goose Creek school and the Berkeley County School District are being sued by a mother who says they failed to protect her daughter from sexual assault on the school campus. The lawsuit claims that James Spencer, principal of Marrington Middle School of the Arts, and the district allowed a male student known to sexually assault female students to attend class with the girl and others.

Woman charged with felony DUI after fatal Berkeley County wreck

A woman was charged with felony driving under the influence following a fatal wreck Thursday in Berkeley County, troopers said. Melanie Maguire, 38, was traveling east on Cooper Store Road outside of Moncks Corner when her 2002 Ford pickup ran off the right side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned, Highway Patrol reported.
