Abuse of medical drugs a concern
The problem of prescription drug abuse has been on the increase throughout the country, causing law enforcement officials and doctors to re-examine the tactics used to combat it.

It's too bad that these people have problems with being addicted. I've heard that some are just addicted to the money that they make off of selling them. That needs to stop. I always keep any medications I have locked up.

When the doctor asks to count your pills, you have to prove your not guilty of being a Junkie. It seems that goes against the traditional legal precidents of being innocent until proven guilty. Of course, if you dont let them count your pills the docs throw you out and cuase patients to suffer through withdrawls. Its all the DEAS fualt, The DEA keeps passing laws to make routine pain treatment the biggest possible hassle for everyone invovled : doctors are having to fill out mountains of paperwork to give out meds , and patients that cant relie on doctors to fill prescriptons on time, suffer withdrawls , are being treated like junkies.
Our grandparents had a system where they could walk into the pharmacy and buy the drugs they need cheaply, without goverment intrusion, and addictions werent nearly as common as they are today. Harrison narcotics act shut that down, so when you are out of pills, hurting , and sick from withdrawl, blame the government! |

Apparently , restricting these drugs from OTC to prescription wasnt the solution to addiction that the government promised us. Did any one notice that they used the failure of the drug laws to justify the expansion of failed programs and cuase further intrusion into the lives of americas sick and crippled?

Unfortunately people who are really in pain and not addicted have a hard time getting anything for pain. If you have a family doctor who knows you they will give you pain pills if you really need them. Try to get any from the emergency room, they label everyone as addicts. They should be able to tell the difference between the people who are there a lot looking for pills and the ones who seldom come looking for pain pills. To them it doesn't seem to matter. |

Pain management is a very important part of some peoples lives. Unfortunately some people have made it a business. The people who need it can't get it and the ones who don't are selling them. Medical tests don't lie. Are any of these dealers getting their aches and pains confirmed by catscans or mri's? Back problems are hard not to prove but it seems if you continue to have "a backache" after several months your Dr. would be intelligent enough to order something other than an xray.

Well I think many of the Doctors around here are just legalized dealers. I know a Dr. in town who kept a woman on Oxicodone for 3 years. She was so mess up on it, he only stopped prescribing it because the family threatened to sue him. The doctors get a kick back from the companies if they push there stuff. dealers used to be easy to spot on the the streets, but now they are in offices wearing white coats.

You would be amazed at how many people, who are on methadone treatment, for withdrawal symptoms related to Oxycodone. Ranks right up there with heroin because its an opioid. Also goes by the name of Roxicodone, and anyone who goes cold turkey after using these drugs for a long period of time, is sure to have withdrawal symptoms. Druggies love to take a high dose time released tablet, broken, for one hell of a fast high. As for the doctor's getting kick back's from drug companies, you better believe it. One of my golf buddies is a salesman for a major drug company and he lays out 1000's in perks yearly for them to prescribe his brands. |

Heres a simple cure...make commonly abused prescription drugs suppositories only..not much fun in sitting around a party or club shoving horse pills up your arse.

It's defintely true, My best friend was in the hospital for third degree burns and he recieved incrediably high doses of pain killers. These doses continued until he was ejected from the hospital, where he was forced to go cold turkey. He then went through severe withdrawal, and turned to buying heroin off the black market to control his pain. the system that outlaws marijuana, but allows doctors to prescribe heroin derivatives is seriously messed up.....LEGALIZE MARIJUANA (NORML) |

The thing is, many of these gies are on Welfare/SSI and "WE" the "working minority" tax payers are paying for their fix. I say kick some of these losers off of Welfare/ and see if they really are disabled and need SSI. The woman I referred to has never worked a day in her life, has mooched off of the system all her life and she gets her medical free because her so called disability is that she is a drunk. So What! I am tired of our community kissing the a$$es of losers. Everyone has pain to some degree, stop whining get off your and get a job.

Oh... and the only reason I stay with my Dr. is:#1- She looks like Ali McGraw,#2- She wouldn't give you Oxycodone if your leg was falling off. I can already hear her, "Just walk it off." She would probably give you some "Herbal Remedy," give you a list of health books to pick up at the library, and rundown some vitamins your need pick up at Spice and Nice. You have to admire doctors who don't take out their "pill" pen & pad at every ache and pain.

I would agree! But what about WHEN a pain killer is indeed needed? I lived through childbirth without any pain killers, but there have been times in life where I did need them. For those who are addicted to them, that must be a terrible way to live. |
|
An addict doesn't care how they get them, nor how they are administered. But those of us who are actually using them for pain do! |

We need to praise Peter Urbanowicz and the other officers at the BPD. There's a lot more than underage drinking happening in this town. The PD needs more officers and detectives to keep Bennington the way it was when I was growing up here. This issue isn't going away, it will only get worse much like heroin in early 2000.

heres a story i know a women that was on welfare here in vt for 22 yrs. anfc, foodstamps ,medicad, wic, and broc assistance, sold drugs, took drugs, let her 2 kids do whatever, was given the oppertunity to turn her life around but no she didint, now she sits in a camper still high on dope, being so white trash benningtonite. and shes 50 yrs old, so sad!!!!!!!!

That is why we need to kick these people off of welfare. It doesn't really help them. People really need to think about this when we elect liberal into office. |
|
"Welfare Reform" is more than 10 years old. You should read about it -- there is a lifetime 5 year limit on benefits along with many other supports to get people so they can be self-supporting. Not a perfect system, but it beats the lifetime on welfare. |
