In Memory: Bill C. Green, Former Cartersville School Board Member

Born January 3, 1931, in Bartow County, a son of the late Leon Green and Clifford Naomi Black Green, he was a well-known citizen of Cartersville. Green was an active member of the Sam Jones United Methodist Church and United States Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.

County, CRBI launch Highway 411 boat ramp

Floaters, kayakers and canoers will soon have an easier time accessing the Etowah River, as Bartow County and the Coosa River Basin Initiative have partnered to build a boat ramp in the corner where Macedonia Road intersects with U.S. Highway 411. Clearing has begun at the site, and construction on the ramp itself will not happen for another week or two, said Lamont Kiser, director of the county's Community Development Department.

Man's head cut during fight involving knife

A man was cut with a knife Thursday night when he and another man were fighting over a woman. A Cartersville police officer responded to Courrant Street at 10:56 p.m., where he found the victim, who had a "visible cut to the left side of his head and was bleeding," according to the incident report.

Hwy. 140 corridor faces opposition

Having asked all the necessary questions at Tuesday's work session, the Adairsville City Council breezed through the regular meeting - approving, authorizing, adopting, directing and rescinding more than 35 resolutions. The council authorized City Manager Pam Madison to negotiate and execute all contracts necessary to insure the completion of the renovation of City Hall.

Bluegrass & Folk Festival Returns to Cartersville in October

The festival is scheduled for Saturday, Oct 18 in downtown Cartersville. Last year's inaugural event featured 13 bands on two stages, a Kids' Corner and drew more than 2,000 attendees.

Bartow sites among top FY 2014 investments

According to Gov. Nathan Deal's office, two Bartow County sites are among the top job-creating investments the state saw during its 2014 fiscal year. Toyo Tire's expansion ranked second in the state's projects of regional significance, with Shaw's Adairsville plant ranking fourth.

Saturday course stresses child stranger safety

Aa Slack of education resources for children on stranger safety led a local mother to spearhead a one-day event focused on teaching youth about people not known to them. "After talking with my kids about strangers and seeing their reaction, I realized coming from 'mom' wasn't as effective as it would be coming from someone like the police," Stephanie Bass said, "so I started researching and found that there is nothing about stranger safety taught in the schools, no curriculum, class, or even an assembly done on this subject at all.

Adairsville city hall set to re-open in February

EVHS presents Rowland Springs program Saturday

For Paul Dietrich, a trip to the Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War Museum about seven years ago turned into an extensive search of his family's past. After his mother's tip - that the venue displayed his ancestor John Sharpe Rowland's train car - proved unfruitful, Dietrich's interest was sparked, determined to find out if there was any truth to the story.
